Building Fraternity

Priesthood in the Diocese of Superior is a brotherhood that begins in the seminary. A fraternity of seminarians and priests devoted to service and camaraderie. We unite to uplift one another in our spiritual journeys and to embrace our calling with compassion and commitment. As you enter the seminary you are joined with us as we deepen our connections and share our dedication to guiding others on their paths.

Priestly Fraternity within the Diocese of Superior

“Formation never really ends. It is and should be a part of a priest’s life. Priests need regular and intentional peer interaction and fraternity, support from the laity and ongoing and human and spiritual formation to persist in their vital services to the church”. (as quoted by an expert to the Nation Catholic Register, Dec 3, 2025.)

Building priestly fraternity involves creating intentional opportunities for priests to connect through regular gatherings, shared prayer, mutual support, and common activities, combating isolation and fostering deeper spiritual brotherhood essential for healthy ministry, often through diocesan events, and small groups. This intentional community provides a safe space for sharing, growth, and spiritual renewal, countering loneliness and strengthening their shared mission.

In the Diocese of Superior, an emphasis on prioritizing connection and community with priesthood is important. That connection can and does take many forms.  Regular phone calls, time spent on a weekend fishing trip, gathering for discussion during key times of the year, even traveling to a foreign country to connect with a Diocesan priest assigned as a chaplain in the military.

Why It's Important:

  • Combats Loneliness: Addresses the isolation and potential burnout priests can experience.

  • Strengthens Ministry: Fosters better cooperation and effectiveness in serving the faithful.

  • Deepens Spirituality: Reinforces their shared identity as brothers in Christ, not "soloists".

  • Integral to Priesthood: Acknowledged by Church teaching (e.g., Presbyterorum Ordinis) as foundational for a healthy presbyterate.
